We are looking for people who will organise and run events for Food For Life Vrindavan UK. Events can and should be fun! Some ideas of fundraising events include fashion shows, dinner parties and golfing tournaments.

FUND RAISING GUIDELINES

PAYING IN MONEY

You can pay in money you have raised by sending a cheque payable to ‘Food For Life Vrindavan UK Ltd':

If you have raised funds for a specific cause, eg a school or medical centre build, please make this clear by writing it on the back of your cheque. If you have raised funds by participating in an activity, please state clearly what the activity was when sending in your payment.

SIMPLE IDEAS LEAD TO SUCCESS:

  • Simple fundraising ideas work best
  • Use ideas that you know work well and are comfortable with
  • Control costs and keep them low
  • Contacts - ask everyone you know to ask everyone they know to help and join in
  • Enthusiasm - is vital
  • Sell your event at every opportunity and seek out all the publicity you can get
  • Show your gratitude and say a big thank you to all involved,quickly publicise how much was raised - and what it will do

 

SAFE AND LEGAL FUNDRAISING

Young people of any age are welcomed and encouraged to help with fundraising for Food For Life Vrindavan, however, there are some important guidelines to remember and follow:

If you are under 18, please check with your parents or guardians before undertaking any fundraising events

Always obtain the written permission of parents or guardians before involving young people in any fundraising events.

Take extra care where children are involved in fund raising events. There must be adequate supervision and their health and safety is paramount. Be vigilant at all times to protect young people from risk.

 

GENERAL ADVICE

  • Be safe and do not do anything illegal or dangerous.
  • When handling cash, ensure that it is kept locked and out of sight. Do not leave the venue alone with your takings.
  • Ensure that you take reasonable care of the health and safety of both yourself and other people.
  • Consider how any planned fund raising events could affect the safety of other people.
  • If you are unsure, please check with your Local Authority or contact us
  • Be aware that it is the responsibility of those joining in fund raising events to ensure they are fit to take part.
  • Ensure that any venue being used has been checked for health and safety hazards.
  • Carry out a risk assessment.
  • Ensure that there are adequate access routes for disabled people and exits for all in the event of an emergency
  • Always make provision for lost or injured children at fund raising events
  • Check what public liability insurance the venue operator or owner has and that it covers owners liability risks
  • If you decide to contract out activities, ensure that you have assessed the financial background, competence and suitability of the contractors before hiring them
  • If the event involves singing or dancing you will need to check with the local authority whether you need a Public Entertainment License (unless your venue already holds one)

 

Check whether you have adequate insurance. For example, if organising an event at a school check that you have adequate public liability cover. Food For Life Vrindavan UK Ltd cannot take responsibility for any injury, losses, or damage caused or sustained as a result of fundraising events in aid of Food For Life Vrindavan UK Ltd.

COLLECTIONS

Food For Life Vrindavan UK Ltd does not approve of fundraising in the street or door-to-door collections and will not sanction these.

FOOD

The Food Safety Act of 1990 and Regulations of 1995 place requirements on anyone who sells or processes food to ensure that they do so safely and hygienically. Always ensure that any food provided has been stored at the appropriate temperature, hygienically prepared and thoroughly cooked.
Foods made with nuts or dairy products should be clearly labelled. If selling food that has been defrosted, label it to warn people against refreezing it. For further advice please contact your Local Authority's Food Safety Officer.

For ethical reasons, Food For Life Vrindavan UK Ltd requires that no foods containing eggs, fish, meat are sold by its supporters at fund raising events.  Please  contact us if you need further advice.

LOTTERIES AND QUIZZES

Lotteries are governed by the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976. Small and private lotteries such as at a fete or dinner dance do not need a license. But Society lotteries (such as stand alone raffles) do need a license and there are legal requirements on the level of prizes that can be offered, the amount of expenses that can be charged, and the way the activity is organised. As the rules regarding lotteries are complex, it is advisable to ask for clarification from your Local Authority.

If you are organising a quiz or competition where skill is involved in determining the outcome, no registration is required and there is no limit to the prizes that can be offered.

SALES

For ethical (and legal) reasons, any fundraising event held for Food For Life Vrindavan UK Ltd must not contain the sale of:

  • Cigarettes
  • knives or weapons
  • alcohol
  • adult rated videos or literature
  • products known to contain animal parts

For safety reasons, any fundraising event held for Food For Life Vrindavan UK Ltd must not contain the sale of:

  • Second hand electrical, gas or oil goods
  • Second hand bikes or any other equipment that may cause injury if damaged
  • Home made or pirated tapes and other materials
  • drugs, glues, or potentially hazardous items

Remember, any fund raising must be done within the rule of law.

PUBLICITY AND RESOURCES

Food For Life Vrindavan UK Ltd is happy to provide free fund raising resources such as sponsorship forms and posters. Please  contact us to order these.

If you are creating your own publicity materials, please ensure that our charity details appear on all fundraising resources and please let us review and approve the materials before you use them. Use the wording ‘Food For Life Vrindavan UK Ltd is a registered charity, number 1118856.'


The guidelines are general guidelines only written to indicate what may be acceptable events to the charity. Food For Life Vrindavan UK Ltd cannot accept any liability for events that you organise.
